Allegany County officials are continuing talks with the Cumberland Economic Development Corporation that will lead to the CEDC taking over economic development for the county. Jake Shade, president of the Allegany County Board of Commissioners, along with Cumberland Mayor Ray Morriss and Paul Kelly, executive director of CEDC, have been involved in negotiations, studying new arrangements for business attraction in the city of Cumberland and countywide. Economic development in the area is currently handled by Allegany County government and the CEDC with input from the city of Cumberland. The nonprofit CEDC, which has an office on Pershing Street, was formed in July 2015 by vote of the mayor and City Council to pursue economic development projects within the city limits.
