On Tuesday, 09/20/2016, Deputies with the Allegany County Sheriff's Office, with assistance from the Maryland State Police, arrested 43 year old Christopher Shawn Miller, no fixed address, for shoplifting.
Miller was at the Sears in the Country Club Mall earlier when a loss prevention employee of Sears spotted him taking items and concealing them prior to leaving the store. He was observed entering a red Ford Ranger truck. The Sheriff's Office was advised and the vehicle was stopped by Deputies and Troopers as it was exiting the Mall.
Law enforcement officers recognized Miller and the vehicle from a similar incident which occurred earlier at Walmart in the Mall on 07/08/2016. On that occasion a white male suspect was observed taking items and leaving the store without paying for them. According to a Walmart loss prevention associate, when they approached the suspect at the store's entrance/exit to stop him, the suspect turned and pointed a handgun at them. The suspect then fled in a red Ford Ranger truck. Law enforcement responded to the scene at that time. A search for the suspect and vehicle was conducted, but the suspect was not located at that time.
The Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit (C3I) was contacted to assist in the investigation. A search warrant for the suspect's vehicle was obtained and a search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of evidence related to the thefts. Review of the surveillance video from the first event confirmed that Miller was the suspect involved in the first incident at Walmart.
Miller was charged with Theft for the incident at Sears on 09/20/23016. He was also charged with Armed Robbery, Robbery, 1st Degree Assault, and Theft for the incident at Walmart on 07/08/2016.
Miller is currently awaiting an initial appearance before a District Court Commissioner.
The investigation is continuing by the Sheriff's Office and C3I.
