Canal Parkway finally re-opened just before noon Thursday morning following a two-car train derailment that occurred at about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. No injuries were reported in the incident that prompted response of CSX personnel, State Highway Administration, Cumberland Police and Allegany County Fire Police. CSX spokesman Rob Doolittle said the incident occurred when two freight cars were being moved to assemble to another train. Accortding to the Cumberland Times News the cause of the derailment remains under investigation by CSX personnel. One of the cars was empty and the second one contained sheet steel coils. Both cars remained upright when they left the track and the cargo remained intact. Both cars were reportedly returned to the tracks by 9 a.m.
