11:30 PM UPDATE:
The Cumberland Police Department is on the scene of a large water main break on Decatur Street. The immediate area is being detoured. Assistance is being provided by the Allegany County Fire Police with detouring in traffic. The Utilities Department with the City of Cumberland are on the scene at this time.
The Cumberland Police Department is asking motorists to avoid this area.
Effected streets are; Decatur Street, Henderson Avenue, Front Street,
Fulton Street, and Queen City Drive.
11 PM UPDATE:
911 tells use that a large portion of Cumberland has been affected by the water main break. On the positive side, the Cumberland Water Department has released this statement:
"The City of Cumberland Water Department had an emergency shut down due to a 24" water main break on Decatur Street.
"Once the shutdown takes place, Decatur Street will be the only area affected.
"We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience while the crew works to repair the problem."
INITIAL REPORT:
Allegany County 911 alerts us to a large water main break in the Decatur Street area of Cumberland.
Crews have been dispatched to the scene.
Water customers in the immediate area are affected, as is traffic on streets near the break.
