On 03/05/2017 members of the Cumberland Police arrested 20 year old Dajaun Mikel Pendergast, of Cumberland, and 20 year old Tavante Ernest Jones, of Cumberland, in connection with a shooting incident which recently occurred at Jane Frazier Village in Cumberland.
The Cumberland Police responded to Memorial Avenue shortly before 1:00 AM on Thursday, 01/26/2017, for a report of two suspects attempting to force entry into a private residence. The suspects were unable to gain entry, and as they were leaving, fired a single shot from a handgun at the residents inside. No one was struck.
Investigators with the Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit (C3I) responded to assist in the investigation. Through interviews and review of surveillance video, Investigators, at that time, were able to identify one of the suspects as 16 year old Jason Leonard Crawford Jr., of Cumberland. Investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Crawford, who is being charged as an adult, and was arrested on 01/28/2017.
He was charged with Armed Robbery, 1st Degree Assault, 2nd Degree Assault, Attempted 3rd Degree Burglary, Use of a Firearm During Commission of a Felony Crime of Violence, Reckless Endangerment, and numerous related charges. Crawford was taken before a District Court Commissioner for an initial appearance and was ordered held without bond. He is currently being held at a secure juvenile facility, pending his next court appearance.
Continued investigation by C3I Investigators led to the identity of two other suspects involved in the incident, Dajaun Pendergast and Tavante Jones. Pendergast and Jones were each charged with Armed Robbery, 1st Degree Assault, 2nd Degree Assault, Attempted 3rd Degree Burglary, Use of a Firearm During Commission of a Felony Crime of Violence, Reckless Endangerment, and numerous related charges.
Pendergast was taken before a District Court Commissioner for an initial appearance and is currently being held at the Allegany County Detention Center without bond, pending his next court appearance.
Jones was also taken before a District Court Commissioner for an initial appearance and is currently being held at the Allegany County Detention Center on $75,000.00 bond, pending his next court appearance.
