The Cumberland Times News reports, Mineral County Board of Education members voted unanimously during a special meeting Sunday to relocate the alternative school and vacate its building on Clary Street. The school provides for the county's special needs students. It is also home to the Mineral County Sheltered Workshop, a separate nonprofit program that's not part of the school system. The decision to move the alternative school to Keyser Middle School was made some time ago, but only recently have details of the move and logistics begun to be worked out.
The vote Sunday came after a third tour of the middle school by board members to consider the reconfiguration plan for the alternative program. This time, Jenni Woy, the alternative school principal, middle school Principal Julie McBee and teachers joined the tour.
Superintendent Shawn Dilly conducted the tour, explaining how each space would be configured for offices, classroom, storage and other uses. The principals and teachers were invited to ask questions. They expressed concerns about noise abatement, bus loading and unloading and scheduling for the alternative students.
