On July 1, 2017 at approximately 5:38 PM Cumberland Police officers responded to a residence in the 200 block of Baltimore Avenue for an assault in progress complaint.
Through witness interviews and evidence collected at the scene, officers learned Michael Shawn Fear and an adult male had been arguing over periods of time since the night before. On July 1 Fear went to the adult male victim’s apartment and began arguing with him again. After arguing for several minutes, Fear grabbed the victim by his beard and cut part of his beard off with a knife. Fear then began assaulting the victim until the victim was able to get away from him.
Fear was arrested and charged with 1st Degree Assault, 2nd Degree Assault, Resisting Arrest, and Reckless Endangerment. The victim sustained minor injuries that did not require medical treatment. He was taken before a District Court Commissioner where he was held without bond. Fear was taken to the Allegany County Detention Center to await his next appearance in District Court.
