Allegany County children are tied at 5th place with Howard County in regards to being fully prepared to enter kindergarten according to Maryland’s Kindergarten Readiness Assessment (KRA). 54% of children in Allegany County are fully prepared for Kindergarten.
Kent County tops the list with 63% of children being fully prepared with Washington County ending the list at 36%.
The KRA assessment, given at the beginning of the school year, measures different skills and behaviors and is intended to offer an accurate baseline for measuring kindergarten readiness in ways that prepare students to handle learning.
The test measures school readiness in language, literacy, mathematics, social foundations, and physical well-being and motor development.
