A 65-year-old Alabama man was trapped in his tractor-trailer early Tuesday when it reportedly struck a vehicle and then traveled out of control and overturned in the center median of Interstate 68 in eastern Garrett County, according to Maryland State Police. Mack A. Monroe of Centerpoint was taken to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center following the 12:42 a.m. crash for treatment of unspecified injuries. Troopers from the McHenry barrack responded to the crash that occurred on eastbound I-68 at the 29-mile marker and found a 2015 Kenworth tractor-trailer in the center median. The driver was freed from the truck by fire and EMS volunteers. Investigation determined Monroe reportedly struck a Volkswagen passenger car that was traveling in the right lane. The rig then traveled out of control, struck the median and overturned onto the driver's side. Shaft and Frostburg volunteer fire departments and the Frostburg Area Ambulance responded to the scene upon alert by the Allegany County 911 emergency center.
