On Saturday, November 25, 2017 at approximately 2:11 PM, the Cumberland Police Department responded to the area of Queen City Drive and Baltimore Street for a report of a subject passed out behind the steering wheel of a vehicle. Upon the officers’ arrival, they located the vehicle in the roadway, obstructing the flow of traffic. Officers contacted the driver, Samuel Resnick, and detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from his breath. Roadside field sobriety tests were conducted. At the completion of the tests, it was determined that Resnick would be placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. When officers advised Resnick that he was under arrest for the violations, he refused to comply and attempted to pull away from officers. Officers were able to gain control of Resnick and place him in hand restraints. A search of Resnick’s property revealed that he was in possession of a prescription medication tablet identified as Diazepam. Resnick was transported to the police station and processed. He was also served with a bench warrant for failing to appear for his court case. Resnick was taken before the District Court Commissioner where he was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center on bonds totaling $2,000.
