Western Maryland Health System (WMHS), Allegany College of Maryland (ACM), and The Community Wellness Coalition will be hosting the 52nd Institute on Medicine & Religion on Friday, November 16, 2018. The one-day seminar, entitled “Healing from the Heart: Ancient Practices for Modern Wounds”, will be held from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Zimmer Theatre at ACM. Registration and refreshments will begin at 8:30 a.m.
The seminar is designed for clergy, counselors, dietitians, nurses, physicians, professional counselors, social workers, and interested members of the public. Upon completion of the seminar, six contact hours will be awarded to the various professions.
Course objectives include: 1) Identifying the impact of stress and trauma on physical and emotional wellbeing;
2) Reviewing the latest research on the healing energy of connection, the impact of ritual on the brain, and the medicinal qualities of prayer; 3) Recognizing the importance of a community response to the opioid crisis;
4) Articulating current best practices for incorporating mind-body skills into trauma-informed care for children and adults; 5) Describing how addiction and trauma can open up an opportunity for transformation and healing; and 6) Employing ancient practices such as imagery, intention, prayer, chanting and movement in work with clients and patients.
Presenting this inspiring and comprehensive seminar will be Dr. Sabrina N’Diaye, an integrative psychotherapist whose approach to healing is a blend of wisdom, science, and ancient spiritual practices. Her humorous and engaging presentation style has earned her rave reviews from healthcare and human service professionals throughout the country.
