On Friday, 19 year old Anthony Maurice Ross Jr. was arrested by members of the Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit (C3I), with assistance from the Cumberland Police and the Cumberland Police CERT Team. Ross's arrest is the result of continued investigation into the circumstances surrounding the arrest of a 16 year old male student, who was in possession of a loaded handgun, at Allegany High School on Monday, 01/23/2017.
Investigators developed information that Ross had provided that handgun to the student, as well as another handgun that was located at the 16 year olds residence, which was recovered during an earlier search there.
Investigators obtained a search warrant for Ross's residence on Pear Street in Cumberland. The search warrant was served on Friday morning and Investigators recovered additional evidence at that time.
In addition to the search warrant, Investigators also obtained an arrest warrant for Ross. Ross is being charged with two (2) counts each of Possession of a Firearm by a Minor, Illegal Sale or Transfer of a Regulated Firearm, and Unlawful Sale or Transfer of a Regulated Firearm.
Ross was taken before a District Court Commissioner for an initial appearance, and is currently being held at the Allegany County Detention Center pending his next court appearance.
