During the Allegany vs. Dunbar varsity football game on September 1, 2017, patrons were invited to make donations to the Western Maryland Food Bank in memory of Jack Gilmore. Gilmore passed away earlier this year and was a teacher and coach at Allegany High School for 27 years. The fund drive was successful in raising $1,000 for the food bank, an amount that was matched by the Gilmore Family.
These funds will specifically benefit the food bank's Bagman Backpack Program, which is designed to meet the needs of hungry children during the hours that they aren't in school, including weekends. The program currently serves more than 370 children per week throughout fifteen area schools.
Since Jack's passing, more than $4,500 has been raised for this program in his memory. Anyone who would like to make a donation should contact the food bank at 301-722-2797.
