Then look no further than the Allegany County Animal Shelter’s “Hounds Around Town” program, which allows individuals to sign a shelter dog out for the day. The most important thing is you are giving an adoptable shelter dog a much-needed break from the kennels and providing enrichment and socialization. Volunteer puppy raisers open their homes to young puppies and help them build confidence, good manners, and trust during their most important developmental year. The love, structure, and experiences a puppy receives during this time directly shapes their ability to become a successful guide dog. Without dedicated puppy raisers, future guide dogs simply wouldn’t be possible.
