Allegany Library System Holiday Schedule
In prepartion for the holidays, the library system has adopted a schedule with the goal of minimal interruption to library services while also allowing staff the flexability to enjoy time off with their families. On the days between Christmas and New Year's Holidays, the Frostburg, LaVale, and South Cumberland Libraries will maintain their regular schedules. All branches of the Allegany County Library System will close on the following dates:
Tuesday, December 24 Wednesday, December 25 Thursday, December 26 Tuesday, December 31 Wednesday, January 1
The George's Creek, Washington Street and Westernport Libraries will also be closed on Monday, December 30. All libraries will re-open on Thursday, January 2, 2025 for their regular business hours.
Allegany County Library System Story Time
The Allegany County Library System is excited to announce the return of the beloved Fall Story Times startig the first week of October until mid December. Families of all ages are invited to join for a fun-filled hour of stories, crafts, and quality family time at your local library. Story Time Schedule: Tuesdays at LaVale Library, Wednesdays at Frostburg, George's Creek, and Washington Street Libraries and Thursdays at South Cumberland and Westernport Libraries. Little Free Library
Little Free Library has opened in Historic downtown Cumberland. The Minecraft-themed Little Free Library is located at the corner of Merchants Alley and South Liberty Street. Take a book, leave a book. If you see a book you would like to read, feel free to take it with you. Return it to the Little Free Library when you have finished. Give a book and help keep this Little Free Library operating by leaving a book for others to read.
WV Parenting
There are currently 6,900 children in the state care in West Virgina, many of these children need a home. Burlington United Methodist Family Services is requestiong your help. National Federation of the Blind of Maryland Western Maryland Chapter
The Western Maryland chapter of the National Federation of the Blind is seeking new members as it starts its local membership drive! Are you blind, visually impaired or know someone who is or maybe you work with the visually impaired? Consider joining the state's fastest growing chapter here in Western Maryland. Hounds Around Town
Looking for a day filled with furry friends and fun? Then look no further than the Allegany County Animal Shelter's "Hounds Around Town" program, which allows individuals to sign a shelter dog out for the day. The most important thing is you are giving an adoptable shelter dog a much-needed break from the kennels and providing enrichment and socialization. Lights on the Lake
The Western Maryland Jaycees are thrilled to announce the return of the Lights on the Lake fundraiser, set to brighten the holiday season with a spectacular display of festive lights and community activities. This year's event will kick off on Small Business Saturday, November 30th, and run through Tuesday, December 24th, from 6:00PM to 9:00PM at Rocky Gap State Park. As in past years, the light displays will be open each weekend, Friday through Sunday, with two additional days added on December 23rd and 24th to celebrate the Christmas holiday. The Western Maryland Jaycees are delighted to continue this cherished partnership with Rocky Gap for the fourth consecutive year. This event will feature a variety of attractions across December weekends, including special appearances from Santa and Mrs. Claus, visit with alpacas, Little Wills Creek Ranch Miniature Steam Train, performances by the Frostburg Dance Academy, and photography sessions with Jordan Mace. Admission is $5 per car.
