The West Virginia Education Policy Commission says a new initiative will help more residents with college experience but no degree earn certificates that lead to new careers. Commission member Beez Schell says more than 500,000 West Virginia residents have a high school degree, and more than 200,000 have completed college courses but do not have a degree…
“We have a very high rate of high school graduations, and then they get into college and then they leave. And we know there is learning taking place at that time and so what we want to do is we want to recognize that.”
Nearly 180,000 Mountain State residents have some college. Schell says health care and other fields are good options for stacked credentials “Some other opportunities are phlebotomy, pharmacy technician, medical coding and billing, certified nurse aid.”
