West Virginia’s Department of Human Resources was awarded more than $33 million in federal funding for mental health and substance abuse programs. Funding in the form of grants will be given to projects that work with adults with serious mental illness who also have physical health conditions, as well as those with chronic disease and have a substance use disorder. Monies will go to support systems for homeless transition-to-housing and treatment services and screening programs to assess and treat maternal mental health. Also, over $1 million will be provided to improve capacity for the 988 Suicide and Crisis hotline service. Other program funding will address child and adolescent mental health programs.
