Flooding from heavy rain and snowmelt in southern West Virginia has resulted in Governor Patrick Morrisey declaring a state of emergency for 13 counties. Morrisey held a press briefing to go over current conditions where power has been out and 38 swiftwater rescues have been conducted. One fatality has been reported along with several individuals reported missing. The Governor said it has been a confluence of tough weather conditions…
“We had the very high rain that hit some of the counties very hard. Some areas got over five inches of rain. The Tug Fork River and the Bluestone River and some of our tributaries they have been swollen and they’ve experienced major flooding levels. Something we haven’t seen before in a very long time.”
