The West Virginia Department of Health and State Fire Marshal are encouraging residents to safeguard their homes and prioritize smoke alarm safety during Fire Prevention Week October 6th through 12th. Ways to ensure fire safety include purchasing a fire extinguisher, having a to-go bag of necessities, teaching children what smoke alarms sound like and what they should do when they hear one. Practice home fire drills, develop a family escape plan, and establish a fire or emergency meeting place.
