West Virginia Division of Highways garages across the state are busy preparing for the cold weather months ahead. Crews have been prepping and testing over 1,000 snowplows to service all 55 counties. A typical snowplow holds 12 tons of salt, enough to treat 100 lane-miles of road. Drivers will work in 12-hour shifts if snow hits or work ahead to pre-treat roads with brine if bad weather is expected. Drivers are reminded to drive with care around snowplows when they are working on highways and roads.
