October 5th, 2024 by WCBC Radio

William Gilchrist Museum of Art exhibit continues through October 6th, Sunday from 1-4:p.m. Patricia Dobbin’s photographic work evokes a sense of familiarity, awe, and wonder often reminiscent of dreams or memories—while exploring complexity through order and repetition. With over 30 years of experience as a photographer, designer, and educator, she draws inspiration from technological advancements, graphic design trends, her students; learning journeys, and her own personal observations. It has been said of Steven Dobbin that he positions himself, “between art, design, commentary, and an unwavering commitment to his students, which penetrates a significant portion of his artwork.” Symbols, which Steven incorporates into his work as a reflection of his experience as a special education teacher. Both the immigrant portraits on canvas and the Immigrant Series utilize these shared symbols and words. He collects unconventional materials that resonate with the themes of time, material, and memory and is drawn to discarded, rusted tools, everyday objects and other remnants. www.gilchristgallery.com
