Wildlife Crossings For Maryland

January 1st, 2025 by WCBC Radio

Maryland is receiving almost $400,000 from the Federal Highway Administration to identify areas along state highways where there are high volumes of wildlife-vehicular collisions. The money will identify areas in need of a crossing and support awareness of habitat connections across highways.  Ben Goldfarb, a wildlife journalist, said that wildlife crossings are new to the U.S., but have long been in use elsewhere…

“The first were built in the 1950s in France and wildlife crossings spread to Germany and Austria and Switzerland and other western European countries throughout the middle of the 20th century.”
