With Spring comes an increase in wildfires and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources is urging preparation and prevention to eradicate the threat of fires getting out of hand. Wildfires occur most often in Spring and Fall when forest fuels are driest and weather conditions are warm and windy. Each year the Maryland Forest Service responds to an average of 122 wild fires. The DNR encourages citizens to do burning only on low fire danger days or consider composting or mulching of yard waste or using larger trees for firewood. Never leave an outside fire unattended.
