The Women, Infant, and Children’s food program, best known as WIC, turns 50 this year. Established in 1974, and funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, WIC provides vital nutrition education, breastfeeding support, healthy foods, and health and social services referrals to improve families' health outcomes. Over six million participants are served each month in the program.
