Weisenmiller Continues to be Honored in Luxembourg

June 13th, 2023 by WCBC Radio

Concluding a look at the 79th anniversary of D-Day, Christian Pettinger was a guest on the Dave Norman program along with members of the Squires family.  Pettinger lives in Luxembourg, a country adjacent to Germany and is part of a history club which takes care of the graves of soldiers  – in particular Cumberland native Bill Weisenmiller.  The Cumberland resident was killed in October of 1945 when a train hit the truck Weisenmiller was traveling in en route to a bivouac location.  He and other soldiers involved in the accident are remembered with a memorial and are buried in the American Cemetery at Luxembourg – the same cemetery where US General George S. Patton is buried.  Pettinger noted that Luxembourg had been under German occupation throughout the war until it was liberated by US troops…

Pettinger and his associates work to make sure that the soldiers buried at the American Cemetery are remembered as well as for the cause they fought…
