On 07/24/2024 at approximately 9:45 AM an officer from the Cumberland City Police Department observed Marian Black exit the District Court building on South Liberty Street. The officer contacted dispatch and learned that Mrs. Black had an active arrest warrant through the Maryland State Police Cumberland Barrack. As the warrant was confirmed Mrs. Black entered a Jeep and began to leave the area. The officer activated their emergency lights and siren but Mrs. Black did not stop and fled the area. Mrs. Black drove through a red light, drove into oncoming traffic, and failed to yield to several traffic control devices. Due to the hazard Mrs. Black’s driving pattern was causing, officers were advised to terminate their attempt to stop the suspect. A short time later Mrs. Black was seen at the intersection of Valley Street and Centre Street by another officer. This officer observed Mrs. Black’s driver’s side window was down. The officer yelled to Mrs. Black to stop and she had a warrant for her arrest. Mrs. Black yelled at the officer and fled the area again. An application for charges was submitted to the District Court Commissioner and an arrest warrant was issued. On 7/25/2024 Mrs. Black was served the warrant from this incident while being held at the Allegany County Detention Center for the original warrant.
