Warrant Arrests June19-24

A C3I investigation into a Home Invasion/Armed Robbery that occurred on Columbia Street in Cumberland led to several arrests.
Wednesday, June 19, 2024
Joseph Adam Staples, 38 of Cumberland, was arrested without incident at his home and served a District Court Arrest Warrant for Armed Robbery. Additional charges included Firearm Use/Felony-Violent Crime, 2 counts of Assault-First Degree, 2 counts of Assault-Second Degree, Home Invasion, and Burglary-First Degree. Initially held without bond at the Allegany County Detention Center, at a subsequent bail review, a $15,000 bond was set by a Judge. Staples is being held at the Allegany County Detention Center until his bond can be posted.

Thursday, June 20, 2024
John Matthew Gutillo, 38 of Cumberland, was arrested at the intersection of Richfield Ave and Mt. Savage Rd and served a District Court Arrest Warrant for Armed Robbery. Additional charges include Home Invasion, Firearm Use/Felony-Violent Crime, Burglary-First Degree, 2 counts of Assault-First Degree, 2 counts of Assault-Second Degree, and Handgun on Person. He is being held without bond at the Allegany County Detention Center.
Michael Christopher James, 46 formerly of Oakland, California and now Ridgeley, WV was arrested on two (2) Circuit Court Bench Warrants for Failure to Appear.
• James charges in the first case include: Burglary-4th Degree-Dwelling, Malicious Destruction of Property/Value < $1,000, Trespass: Private Property, and Disturbing the Peace/Disorderly.
• James charges in the second case include: Assault-Second Degree.
James is being held without bond in both cases.

Michael Thomas Shipley Jr, 37 of Cumberland, was served two (2) Circuit Court Bench Warrants for Failure to Appear.
• Shipley failed to appear for a Violation of Probation hearing on 6/18/24. His original conviction was for Reckless Endangerment where he was given a 5-year suspended sentenced and 5-years Supervised Probation.
• Shipley failed to appear for a Violation of Probation hearing on 6/18/24. His original conviction was for CDS Admin Equipment Possession/Distribution where he was sentenced to 15-days in jail and 3-years Supervised Probation.
Shipley is being held without bond in both cases.

Monday, June 24, 2024
James Reid Leigh IV, 37 of Frostburg, was arrested on two (2) District Court Bench Warrants for Failure to Appear. Leigh’s original charges in the first case include: Assault-2nd Degree, Disorderly Conduct, and Malicious Destruction of Property/Valued <$1,000; and for the second case include: CDS: Possession Marijuana 10 GM + and CDS: Possession-Not Cannabis. Leigh is being held on $2,000 percentage bond with 10% acceptable in each case.
