Warrant Arrests – July 18

Jason Scott Morris Jr., 26 of Westernport, was served 2 District Court Warrants:
1. Motor Vehicle/Unlawful Taking – MSP Warrant
2. Trespass – Private Property
On 07/18/24 at approximately 7:40 A.M. the Allegany County Combined Warrant Unit received information that Morris, who has a history of fleeing and eluding law enforcement, was seen in an old blue SUV parked on a dirt access road off Klondike Road in the Frostburg area. The Warrant Unit with the assistance of the Sheriff's Office Patrol Deputies responded to that area. Law enforcement officers walked up the access road, while other sworn officers positioned themselves in a field, known as Klondike Ballfield, where the access road ends. Law enforcement was then able to corner Morris who was taken into custody without incident.
1. Additional charges in the Motor Vehicle case include: Burglary-4th Degree Theft, Malicious Destruction of Property/Value $500, and Theft: $25,000 to under $100,000. A $5,000 – 100% bond was set in this case.
2. The second District Court Arrest warrant, Trespass-Private Property occurred on July 13, 2024 when Morris fled from Deputies on the CSX railroad tracks in Westernport. A $1,000 – 100% bond has been set in this case.
Morris is currently being held at the Allegany County Detention Center pending a bail review.

Jay Elwood Lewis, 33 of Cumberland, was served a Circuit Court Grand Jury Indictment listing the charges including: Child Abuse: 2nd Deg -Custodian, Assault-Second Degree, and Neglect of Minor. He is currently being held without bond at the Allegany County Detention Center pending a bail review.

Melvin R. Burkett Jr., 80 of Stoystown, was Extradited from Somerset County, PA and served a District Court Bench Warrant for Failure to Appear. His original charge is Driving without License. Burkett was later released on his own recognizance.
