February 4th, 2025 by WCBC Radio

A traditional destination for local shoppers is being sold to Walmart.  It has been announced that Walmart has purchased the Monroeville Mall outside Pittsburgh.  The purchase price was 34 million dollars.  There is currently no Walmart in Monroeville, where U.S Route 22 houses dozens of retail businesses.  The Monroeville Mall site covers 186 acres, far more than is needed for a Walmart Supercenter, which usually covers 25 acres.  The two story Monroeville Mall opened in 1969.
