On Tuesday, November 12th, 2024, the Cumberland Police Department responded to a business in the 400 block of Virginia Ave for the report of a theft. Upon arrival, store employees advised that a male subject had entered the store and asked for a carton of cigarettes. The subject then took the carton and exited the store without paying. The subject was located a short distance from the store, still in possession of the carton of cigarettes. Officers then approached the subject and advised him he was under arrest. At this time, the subject refused to comply with officers demands and began to resist arrest. After a brief struggle, Harold Wayne Dalton II, 39, of Cumberland MD, was placed under arrest. He was taken before a District Court Commissioner for an Initial Appearance where he was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center on a temporary commitment.
