The US Department of Veterans Affairs is granting over $800 million dollars to help homeless and at-risk Veterans with housing issues.
Through the Supportive Services program, 239 grants will aid organizations that rapidly rehouse Veterans and their families facing a housing crisis. Other programs will provide case management and transitional housing. Veterans Administration Health Secretary Shereef Elnahal says the programs work toward finding homes for more than 40,000 homeless vets each year…
”Number one, we get Veterans in housing as quickly as possible. Number two, we treat Veteran homelessness, or imminent homelessness, as a crisis and we design our programs to respond accordingly. And number three, we empower veterans with wrap around services such as health care and mental health services to help them not only access housing but stay in housing long term.”
