Urgent Action Needed on Business to Business Tax Bill

March 9th, 2025 by WCBC Radio

Today is the deadline business owners can submit testimony to Maryland lawmakers regarding a proposed business services charge that adds a 2.5% tax to many business services including bookkeeping and payroll, repair services, financial planning, and property maintenance. Chamber of Commerce CEO Juli McCoy wants businesses to contact lawmakers or even to testify in Wednesday’s House and Senate hearings…

“There is the option to testify on Zoom. Register to do that. You have to submit your testimony in advance and then you sit there on Zoom and wait for the hearing and wait for them to call you, they’ll let you in the room, and you’ll have your two minutes to share your testimony.”

House Minority Leader Jason Buckel and the rest of the Western Maryland delegation are opposed to the bill. Buckel says it’s just another way for Democrats to tax Marylanders…

“Here’s the reality with all tax increases. The costs get ultimately pushed down to the consumer. When you raise taxes over and over again – we have the highest taxes in our region, we keep raising them more and more and more – it never does the trick.”
