UPMC will soon require masks at its facilities do to a rise in respiratory virus cases. In an emailed statement the health system said “To protect the health and safety of our employees, patients and visitors, beginning Wednesday, Dec. 20 everyone in our health care facilities will wear effective masks which reduce transmission of respiratory viruses in health care settings,” the statement read.
The hospital system lifted its mask requirement in May as COVID-19 cases declined. Allegany County, COVID-19 cases totaled 23,005 Friday since the start of the pandemic in 2020. The county has seen 88 cases in December, according to state figures.
