Union Rescue Relocation Stalled with Neighborhood Opposition

Talks to find a new location for the Union Rescue Mission began more than three years ago- and although a potential site was identified late last year- immediate push back from the neighborhood has  stalled those efforts.  Mission representatives, headed by Reverend David Ziler, say they have outgrown their current facility at a time when requests for their services are increasing. The mission is currently located at 16 Queen City Pavement along the CSX railroad tracks- a site that the Cumberland Economic Development Corporation has identified as a prime location for future economic development.  In September, the Columbia Building, a former synagogue at 11 Columbia Street was targeted as a potential new home for the mission- but Reverend Ziler says once those plans became public- a number of residents from that area voiced opposition to the City Council…
