On Sunday, January 30^th, 2022, Sheriff’s Deputies with the Allegany County Sheriff's Office were in the area of Interstate 68, Cumberland Maryland, when a vehicle was observed committing a series of traffic related offenses.

A traffic stop was conducted, and after approaching the vehicle, deputies detected the strong odor of marijuana emanating from inside. A probable cause search of the vehicle recovered a large amount of suspected marijuana as well as other items to indicate the intent to illegally distribute the controlled dangerous substance. The amount of suspected marijuana seized weighs a total of 463 grams.

Two occupants were identified and arrested as a result and are as follows:

Joshua W Blackwood (19 years old) and Thomas E. J. Reed (18 years old) both of Bowie Maryland.

Blackwood and Reed were each charged with the following:

·       Possession of Marijuana greater than 10 grams

·       Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana

·       Related traffic offenses.

Blackwood and Reed were transported to the Allegany County Detention Center to await an initial appearance before a District Court Commissioner.
