Trone Decries Carver Funding Cut

July 19th, 2023 by WCBC Radio

The House Committee on Appropriations markup of the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, Fiscal Year 2024 funding bill shows a reduction in the funding for the Carver Center in Cumberland. The appropriation is now $850,000 – originally, Congressman David Trone had asked for an appropriation of $2 million for the renovation of the Center. Carver Center is planned to be a location for community organizations to locate and co-exist, creating an opportunity for cooperation and helping those in need.  The Center is intended to directly impact low and moderate income families in Allegany County, including workforce development, youth enrichment and more, Congressman Trone said, “my Community Project Funding requests were cut in half – an unfair and punitive measure by Republicans that will hurt every constituent in my district – Democrat or Republican.”
