Trespassing at UPMC Western Maryland Leads to Arrest

On Saturday, October 12, 2024 at approximately 9:16 AM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to UPMC Western Maryland for a male subject refusing to leave.  Officers contacted security who reported that William Socks had been advised to leave the property; however, he refused.  Police advised Socks multiple times to leave the property, yet he still refused.  Socks was arrested and transported to police headquarters. He was issued a criminal citation and released pending trial. 

At approximately 10:57 AM, officers responded to the area of N. Mechanic Street near police headquarters for a subject that had accessed the controls for a traffic signal pole and was tampering with the wires.  Officers observed that the suspect had caused damage.  Socks was identified as the suspect.  He was arrested again and transported to Central Booking.  Socks was later seen by a District Court Commissioner and posted a $1,000 unsecured bond.
