Allegany County’s Transit System is looking at changing and/or eliminating bus routes. The county’s Board of Public Works Director, Adam Patterson, told those at the first public hearing on changes that the system had been heavily subsidized during COVID, padding some of the deficit that the system has been running, and the county has also been categorized differently by the federal government …
“An as a result of low census numbers, we are no longer considered urban. Because of that we are no longer eligible for an urban funding pot of money from the state for our transit operations. The situation we’re in now – we have our operations for this current fiscal year is about $2.5 million dollars. The shortfall, to be able to make things work this year, is $925,000.”
