On August 25th, 2021 an officer of the Cumberland Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Valley Street and Independence Street. After contact was made with the operator and occupant, Kristy Nicely, the officer requested a K-9 team to respond. Upon the K-9 teams arrival they conducted a scan of the vehicle indicating a positive alert. After a subsequent search officers located a controlled dangerous substance, as well as paraphernalia belonging to Nicely. Nicely was placed under arrest and taken before a District Court Commissioner where she was released on her own recognizance.

On Monday Troopers from the Maryland State Police Cumberland Barracks stopped a vehicle for a minor traffic violation near Lonaconing, MD. It was learned that a passenger in the vehicle, Daymein Malik Brown, 19 of Hagerstown, MD, had an outstanding arrest warrant in Washington County, MD. He was arrested and transported to the Cumberland Barracks where he was searched and processed. During the search Troopers located an amount of marijuana, and crack cocaine packaged in a manner, and in a quantity that indicated the subjects’ intent to distribute the substances. Brown was held on $70,000 at the Allegany County Detention Center.
