CSX Corporation is silent on the subject, but work is indeed going on at what is known as the “hump” in the Cumberland rail yard. The location was dismantled in 2017 when the late Hunter Harrison took over CSX and implemented precision railroading, an attempt to minimize the number of times a freight car must be sorted in rail yards.
The practice has proven costly, causing gridlock and safety issues. WCBC has reached out to CSX for comment on the work, as has Allegany County Government per Jason Bennett, County Administrator…
