In an effort to maintain access to downtown businesses while allowing the contractor to safely complete construction on Liberty Street and Centre Street, the City of Cumberland Engineering Department would like to notify the public of a temporary traffic pattern change.
Beginning on Monday, January 21st, North Centre Street between Baltimore Street and Frederick Street, as well as North Liberty Street between Baltimore Street and Frederick Street, will be closed for vehicular through traffic. Pedestrian access will still be maintained in these areas, as well as emergency vehicle access. In an effort to mitigate this closure, vehicular traffic may access downtown via South Centre Street from Pershing Street. Traffic will be directed onto Baltimore Street and then back onto South Liberty Street prior to returning to Pershing Street. Additional short-term parking will also be provided on Baltimore Street. Signage will be in place to notify passenger vehicles about the road closures and new traffic pattern. Please see the attached diagram for additional information on the traffic pattern change. This closure and temporary traffic pattern will remain in effect until May 3, 2024. Additional information will be released in the event the closure duration is extended or shortened, or if the traffic pattern changes for any reason.
Thank you for your cooperation during this time. Please use caution in the area and follow all traffic control devices that will be in place. If there are any questions, please contact the City of Cumberland Engineering Department, 301-759-6600.
