WBAL NewsRadio has confirmed the identity of the teenage swimmer who drowned in the Atlantic Ocean off of Ocean City this week. His mother, Ren Rick, confirms 17-year-old Azure Storm Martin died this week.
Martin, who was from Annapolis, was reported missing Wednesday afternoon in the ocean off of 112th Street, when he got caught in a rip current.
The Ocean City Beach Patrol said three other swimmers were pulled to safety.
Martin's body was recovered from the ocean near 12th Street Thursday afternoon.
Rick told WBAL NewsRadio that her son was due to start his senior year at Meade High School next month.
She said he played varsity lacrosse and wrestled for the school.
Rick said her son was planning to study engineering in college and was hoping to join the Air Force.
