On Saturday, The Cumberland City Police responded to the 800 Block of Sylvan Ave for the report of an intoxicated male who was seen driving in the area.
Upon arrival on scene, Officers located the male subject who was seated on the porch of a residence. He was identified as Michael William Griffin Jr, 33, of Cumberland MD. The subject was visibly intoxicated and began to be verbally aggressive. He had to be repeatedly ordered to lower his voice and to back up from officer's immediate presence. The subject also began to take and fighting stance and make comments to officers about fighting. The subject’s erratic behavior continued and he then grabbed an officer’s holstered Taser and attempted to take it.
At this time, Griffin resisted as he was placed under arrest. Griffin was taken before the District Court Commissioner for his Initial Appearance. Griffin was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center where he is currently being held on $2,500 bond.
