Supply Chain Issues Result In Drug Shortages

Reports of supply chain issues affecting drug availability seem higher in the United States than Canada, according to the Journal of the American Medical Association. An analysis used reports drawn from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and other sources and compared the reports to actual drug usage in both countries. Dr. Katie Suda, a professor at Pitt School of Medicine said shortages result from a number of different problems…

“In the past, drug shortages were primarily medicines administered in hospitals But now, outpatient medications are also affected by shortages. And their causes vary with unanticipated events such as pandemics, natural disasters and geo-political and workforce issues.”
