A recent Wallet Hub study ranked the best and worst states for teachers in the country and Maryland is in the top five. Several factors determined the rankings including compensation, school-system quality and turnover rates. Maryland’s starting salary for teachers is now $62,500. Neighboring West Virginia ranked 36th of 50 – a starting salary for new teachers there is just under $37,000.
