On Tuesday, October 1st, 2024, officers with the Cumberland Police Department responded to the area of the 100 block of Will’s Creek Ave to locate a possible stolen vehicle. Once on scene, officers located a dark-colored Mazda SUV and confirmed it to be stolen out of Baltimore MD. At that time, a male subject was observed running from a nearby home. Officers were familiar with the subject and had knowledge that the subject had an active Arrest Warrant. After a short foot pursuit, Daries Raheem Legette, 31, of Baltimore MD, was able to be apprehended without further incident. The Arrest Warrant served on Legette was issued as the result of an investigation into an incident that occurred on September 30th. During that incident, the Cumberland Police Department responded to the 300 block of Grand Ave for the report of a theft of items from a vehicle. During the investigation, it was determined that Legette had stolen approximately $4,000 worth of tools from the vehicle and attempted to sell them at a nearby pawn shop. Legette was taken before a District Court Commissioner for an Initial Appearance where he was released on a total of $7,000 in unsecured personal bonds. The investigation into the stolen Mazda is still ongoing.
