The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad is working to preserve the region’s rail history and a major piece of its tourism. Right now, Steam Engine 1309 is down while a major overhaul of her pistons takes place. The Baldwin locomotive, built in 1949, underwent a full restoration job at a cost of over $3 million dollars. The pistons were not addressed in the original work and Scenic Railroad Director Wes Heinz says the fix needed is more than a temporary patch.
