Frostburg State University is working to overcome a significant structural deficit in the coming years. As part of his exclusive interview on WCBC this week, FSU President Ron Nowaczyk said that they have been making budget cuts for some time, cutting staff but protecting the faculty. The college has over 100 unfilled staff positions…
“60% of our budget is personnel and we have not been able to keep up. The tuition increases – and I understand the tuition increases, keeping it as small as possible, but we haven’t been able to keep up with the personnel costs.”
According to Nowaczyk, the increased personnel costs come from state mandates. Costs that the state only partially covers…
“The state has given some pretty good raises over the last several years, but has not funded them entirely and they’re expecting us to cover it out of our tuition. That puts a strain on the university when our numbers weren’t where we wanted them to be.”
