As the second part of her statewide tour of the Comptroller’s Branch Offices, Comptroller Brooke Lierman will visit Western Maryland Friday afternoon, where she will meet with staff and taxpayers at the Comptroller of Maryland’s Cumberland Branch Office.
While in Cumberland, the Comptroller will meet with community stakeholders, business owners, and elected leaders to discuss issues affecting the region’s economy, revitalization projects, and the resources required to achieve those goals. The tour is part of Comptroller Lierman’s campaign promise to be more engaged and accessible to the community.
First, Comptroller Lierman will speak at the groundbreaking ceremony for the $15 million “Reimagine Cumberland” of the Baltimore Street Revitalization Project. She will be joined by Cumberland Mayor Raymond Morriss, Councilmember Laurie Marchinie, and other elected officials, local business representatives, and community leaders. The project will include high-capacity fiber optics, the replacement of underground utilities, and the transformation of the pedestrian mall back to vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
Next, the Comptroller will tour the Canal Place River Park Project. The Canal Place Preservation and Development Authority’s proposed park project would install a whitewater course on the river behind Canal Place, docks for canoes and kayaks, walking trails, and a public overlook.
Comptroller Lierman will then visit the Cumberland Branch Office to meet with staff and to talk with taxpayers seeking assistance with their tax filings. Janet L. Kesner is the Cumberland Branch Office manager.
She will wrap up the day at the Allegany Museum and greet local elected officials and regional stakeholders.
