State Board of Education Takes Emergency Action

Students transferring from one school to another in Maryland will now have their criminal histories following them.  The Maryland State Board of Education took emergency action on Wednesday to mandate school leadership be advised if a student has committed a crime.  A Howard County student transferred from another district without the school’s knowledge of him being under charges of murder. He was found to have a loaded “ghost gun” in his backpack at his new school.  State Superintendent Dr. Carey Wright said it was important for schools to share information…

“We must be clear and as transparent as possible across school systems when it comes to sharing information about transfer students who may pose a threat to school communities.”
